“The EP as a body of work is something we’re all really proud of but its also been a real whirlwind of emotions too. It’s a bit like a moody teenager. It starts quite upbeat and lively but it also has moments of reflection where we take things down a notch and focus in on harder subjects and softer sounds. I think that’s why we like the tracks we’ve chosen for our debut EP Carry the Weight. The mood changes with each track and when we perform them live they definitely keep us on our toes so we’re hoping that comes across to anyone listening to the EP. We’d like to take them on a little journey with us and give them a glimpse of what’s been going on inside our brains for the last few months. The EP tackles love and loss, those age old themes that inspire all songwriters at one time or another, but I suppose one of the most interesting themes to tackle is fear. It’s within every topic we’ve approached so far. It’s the element of fear that gives us all that fight or flight sensation. The urge to react. Do you chose to bow out of difficult situations or do you rise to the challenge and carry the weight? Those reactions are the most interesting parts to explore. It’s that fear that helped us write some of the tracks we’ve written to date. David Bowie once said ‘If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area…when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting’ and as big Bowie fans we just love the idea that great things come from a place of danger and uncertainty. That’s why we’ve written the lyrics to these songs and tackled some more difficult subjects, musically and vocally… just to push things out of their comfort zone a little and see if any of these subjects catch anyone’s attention. Let’s see what happens.” – SHE
