Singles Lost in Time: The Distillers + Hit The Lights

Hello and welcome to Singles Lost in Time, where we dig through our library here at idobi (like monks sifting through historical texts) and we dust off some absolute bangers that never got their proper time in the sun.

The Distillers – “Drain the Blood”

“Drain the Blood” opens with a dirty guitar riff before Brody Dalle graces us with her iconic voice. The Distillers are an amazing punk band. Full stop. But, make no mistake, Dalle’s whisky-soaked vocal cords bring all the boys & girls to the yard. We could have picked any number of The Distillers’ singles (they really don’t miss), however “Drain the Blood” has a full sound that can appeal to fans of all genres.

Hit the Lights – “Bodybag”

Hit the Lights had a hit on their hands. “Bodybag” accomplishes so much in a three-minute song. You’ve got pop-punk hooks, a chantable chorus, and skatepark attitude. The pièce de résistance is the juxtaposition of aggressive lyrics with vocalist Colin Ross’s angelic voice. The song’s sincerity morphs “Bodybag” from tongue-in-cheek to hole-through-cheek.
